Norsjö photo museum

Location: Norsjö
Category: Culture, Places of interest, Museum

Norsjö Bildmuseum is a museum with a collection of arts from artists who, already from the beginning of the 20th century until today, have lived in Norsjö.

21 artists are represented and in the collection, you find paitings in oil and aquarelle, photographs and sculptures in for example wood and stone.

The intention is that this collection should be completed every tenth year with works by artists who meet the set criteria formulated by Norsjö municipality and Norsjöbygden's art association.

The art is distributed throughout Folkets Hus, note that unfortunately there is no elevator in the building.

Why a picture museum in Norsjö?

In the early 1900s, the interest in art creation was awakened by "pioneers" Mauritz Lindqvist and Oscar Halleborg. Both had solid education and worked as full-time artists. They inspired many and also had their own students.

The artists from Norsjö also surrounded themselves with many friends interested in the same thing from other parts of the country. Some of them settled in Norsjö for some time, for example. Åke Ahnlund, Anna Casparsson and Montana Lorentz. It was simply an artist spirit that prevailed in Norsjö at the time.

These phenomena had a great effect for many decades. There was an art association - Norsjöbygdens konstförening - which maintained interest through exhibition activities, education and assignments for the old Education and Recreation Committee. The preparation of the Norsjö Bildmuseum was one of these assignments. The art association has today dissolved.
